“The prospect of new music from John Prine is something the veteran singer-songwriter’s fans haven’t gotten to look forward to in more than a decade. Prine’s most recent album of original material, Fair & Square, came out all the way back in 2005, so the mere mention of his as-yet-unnamed follow-up is noteworthy enough. “I don’t wanna just sit down and write a little couplet that’s kind of witty, or something. I’ve done that,” he told Rolling Stone last year. Just announced! John will join Live from Here with Chris Thile (formerly A Prairie Home Companion) at the Saenger Theatre in New Orleans on Jan. 20th! Other acts to include Sylvan Esso and Rory Scovel.

A Prairie Home Companion is a live weekly radio show heard by 2.6 million listeners each week on nearly 600 public radio stations, online, and on the American Forces Networks, SiriusXM Radio, Radio New Zealand, and KPRG in Guam.

John Visits Sam Phillips Recordings – First Time Since 1979

Last weekend, the Memphis Music Hall of Fame invited John to come to Memphis to induct his mentor, Jack “Cowboy” Clement” into the Music Hall of Fame. While in Memphis, John stopped by Sam Phillips Recording (where he recorded Pink Cadillac), to visit and reminisce with his old friend Jerry Phillips, son of the legendary Sam Phillips. Jerry and his team had a very special treat for John, the original recordings from 1979. The video below shows John hearing the Sam Phillips recorded “Saigon” being cut live to acetate in front of him. It was a wonderful and emotional trip for everyone!
